TIPS
When necessary pause the video to assist with physical prompts. If your child has moderate mobility or is in a wheelchair with minimal mobility, then physical prompts may be necessary to move their body parts to mimic movement patterns. Watch the video before starting with your child and prepare for the movement tasks. Take it slow, go at a comfortable pace. If you must, just watch Coach Jerry, laugh, and narrate the lesson. Have fun.
EQUIPMENT
1) Use plastic grocery bags if a ball is not available. Make the bag no larger than 8 inches in diameter. See DIY video.
2) Use a waist basket, laundry basket, or even an empty box for the basketball hoop.
3) Place the basket near child at an appropriate height based on child's ability level.
ASSIGNMENT AND OBJECTIVE
* Working on range of motion during an object control, basketball-shot skill task: Identify the muscles and body parts being used during the performance.
* Mention the shot technique they are using. Shot selection is based on child's unique needs.
* Feel your child's effort in her/his movement pattern and encourage to keep it up.
(REMINDER)
Stay positive if it's not working out. Give it a good effort and try again later. Your child may be having an off day or it's just out of working context. It may take some time to adjust. Remember, any attempt they give is great for progress.
